Helpful guide
Choosing the right sheen
The sheen affects how a color looks and how easy the surface is to clean. These are the general guidelines we follow; we confirm the right product for each room.
| Sheen | Where it works well | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Flat / Matte | Ceilings, low-traffic bedrooms, formal rooms | Hides surface imperfections; less scrubbable |
| Eggshell | Living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms | Soft look with better washability |
| Satin | Hallways, kids’ rooms, kitchens, bathrooms | Easier to wipe clean; holds up to moisture |
| Semi-gloss | Trim, baseboards, doors, cabinets | Durable and scrubbable; highlights detail |
In coastal homes with higher humidity, bathrooms and laundry rooms benefit from mildew-resistant paint and good ventilation.

Interior painting questions
Do I need to move my furniture before you paint?
Please remove small items, artwork and valuables. We move larger furniture to the center of the room and cover it, and protect floors before any prep starts.
How long does it take to paint a room?
It depends on the room size, repairs and the number of colors. A typical bedroom is often finished in a day; a full interior takes longer. Your estimate includes the expected timeline.
Can you help me choose colors and sheens?
Yes. We can talk through color ideas and recommend the right sheen for each surface, for example a scrubbable finish for hallways or a moisture-resistant option for bathrooms.
Is there a strong paint smell?
Low-odor, low-VOC paint options are available for most interior projects. Ask about them when we discuss your estimate.
